Henley Women's Regatta 2015
Henley Women’s Regatta is always a highlight of the summer racing season, providing a great opportunity for crews to experience exhilarating side-by-side racing along the Henley course.
With a tough field of entries in both the Elite and Senior 8+ categories, both crews were looking forward to exciting racing, and the regatta did not disappoint. Our Senior 8+, a combination of athletes from Osiris and our Emerging Talent Group, raced as an OUWBC/OUWLRC/Oriel BC composite and took on University College Dublin in their first round on Saturday. A tough race led to a 1 ¼ length defeat but it was very rewarding to see the significant progress made by this new line-up as they came together over the summer season.
The Elite 8+, racing as a Radcliffe/Oxford composite, contained 7 members of this year’s Blue Boat, with the additions of Katie Davidson from Osiris and cox Jill Carlson from the Harvard-Radcliffe women’s crew, who joins OUWBC in September for the 2015-16 season. The crew defeated Cornell University in a dominant performance in the quarter-finals on Saturday, before another win against an impressive Stanford University boat on the next day. All the athletes took confidence from these performances, and went on to beat Brown University in the final, winning the inaugural Ron Needs Challenge Cup for Elite 8+s.
This is an incredibly exciting result for the club, and a welcome display of the progress we have made over this landmark year.
