OUWBC Athletes attend Team GB Trials

Two OUWBC athletes, Anastasia Chitty (Blue Boat 2013) and Fresher Lauren Kedar, spent the weekend of the 16th and 17th of November in Boston, Lincolnshire, for the first assessment of the 2013-14 Team GB Trials.

A 2km ergometer test took place on the Saturday morning. Both Oxford rowing athletes were thrilled to post a personal best at this stage in the season and are now excited to see what they are capable of achieving at a later stage in the training year. The 5km time trial on the water took place on the following day, with Anastasia placing 13th overall (7th amongst the U23s) and Lauren 22nd (13th amongst the U23s). Both Lauren and Anastasia were pleased to get into their singles and finally experience the rewards of the squad’s long distance training in preparation for the challenges of longer races on the Tideway.

Commenting on the weekend’s results, Anastasia said: “Overall, it was a solid performance, and I hope to build on it and learn lessons from the weekend as I look ahead to the rest of the selection process and as I re-join our Boat Race squad.” Lauren and Anastasia are now settling back into sweep boats in preparation for the Fuller’s Head of the River Fours on the 30th November.
Congratulations also go to OUBC athletes Constantine Louloudis and Karl Hudspith, who finished 1st and 4th respectively in their 5km time trial. With athletes from across the country competing in this first assessment, it was very exciting to see athletes from both Oxford squads performing competitively and striving towards the same future goals.
